The Sweater that Started it All

It was the mid-1990s and the classic quality sweaters ever-so prevalent during my youth had disappeared beneath the sea of cheap acrylic blandness of wash-n-wear convenience. A neighbor with a knitting supply store in her home, told me “Knitting starts from scratch. A good knitter can make anything you want.”

Preferring the softness and comfort of mohair and alpaca sweaters, she led me to a new yarn made of both.  She sourced a local knitter, I sketched a cardigan design, two weeks later I was wearing the most comfortable sweater of my life.

As I wore it about, the quality and comfort were obvious to all, with three people – on the first day - asking where they could obtain one, with a look of disappointment manifesting upon learning it’d been custom knit. By week’s end, I was back at the neighbor’s yarn store saying, “We’re going to need more of these… a lot more.”

Three decades later, Scott’s Sweaters ships globally every week, mostly my own designs now produced by trusted knitting mills. From the beginning, I was only interested in designing and producing sweaters I’d enjoy wearing. My latest designs are of sweaters I’d always wanted but could never find.
